A Brief History Of CNI
The Diocese of Chandigarh, CNI was carved out of the Diocese of Amritsar in 1973. The Diocese of Amritsar was one of the constituting bodies at the time of formation of the Church of North India. The Rt. Revd. Gurbachan Singh who was elected and installed on 19th November, 1973 as a 1st Bishop and working of the Diocese began with the installation of the Bishop. The Diocese of Chandigarh comprises of all the Civil Districts of Punjab including the union territory i.e. Chandigarh except the Districit of Amritsar. The name of this Diocese is known as “The Diocese of Chandigarh”, because it happens to be the capital city of both Punjab and Haryana. But its headquater is in Ludhiana because it is centrally located for administrative purposes and which is also the only industrial districts of the Punjab. The Diocesan Office is situated near Christian Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana.
